Technical Products, Inc. offers a broad line of denatured ethyl alcohols, 95% (190 proof) and anhydrous (200 proof). Denatured ethyl alcohol in the form of a special industrial solvent is marketed as Techsol Special Industrial Solvent and is available as 95% or anhydrous. There are several formulas each having a different denaturant.

Methanol

It is the simplest alcohol, and is a light, volatile, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odor very similar to, but slightly sweeter than, ethanol. At room temperature, it is a polar liquid, and is used as an antifreeze, solvent, fuel, and as a denaturant for ethanol. It is also used for producing biodiesel via transesterification reaction. Methanol is also used as a solvent, and as an antifreeze in pipelines and windshield washer fluid. In some wastewater treatment plants, a small amount of methanol is added to wastewater to provide a carbon food source for the denitrifying bacteria, which convert nitrates to nitrogen to reduce the nitrification of sensitive aquifers.

Isopropanol Anhydrous

Isopropyl alcohol is used as a solvent for coatings or for industrial processes. Isopropyl alcohol in particular is popular for pharmaceutical applications presumably due to the low toxicity of any residues. Some isopropyl alcohol is used as a chemical intermediate. Isopropyl alcohol dissolves a wide range of non-polar compounds. It also evaporates quickly and is relatively non-toxic, compared to alternative solvents. Thus it is used widely as a solvent and as a cleaning fluid, especially for dissolving oils.

Isobutanol

Isobutanol (isobutyl alcohol) is a medium boiling, slow evaporating, colorless liquid that is useful in organic synthesis, as a chemical intermediate and as a solvent in coating applications. Isobutanol is similar in property to n-butyl alcohol and may be used as a supplement or replacement for n-butyl alcohol in many applications. As a relatively slow evaporating latent solvent in lacquers and ambient-cured enamels, isobutanol is effective in reducing the viscosities of many formulations while simultaneously promoting flow and retarding blush.

Secondary butanol

Secondary butanol is a flammable, colorless liquid that is soluble in 12 parts water and completely miscible with polar organic solvents such as ethers and other alcohols. 2-butanol is used as a solvent, it is mainly converted to butanone ("MEK"), which is an important industrial solvent and found in many domestic cleaning agents and paint removers. Volatile esters of 2-butanol have pleasant aromas and are used in small amounts as perfumes or in artificial flavors.

Texanol™ ester alcohol is the premier coalescent for latex paints. It performs well in all types of latex paints, in a variety of weather conditions, and over substrates with different levels of porosity. Eastman Texanolâ„¢ ester alcohol provides the highest level of film integrity at low levels of coalescent, enhancing the performance properties of the paint including low temperature coalescence, touch-up, scrub resistance, washability, color development, thermal flexibility, and resistance to mudcracking.
